Techno‐Economic Comparison of Bio‐Cycling Processes for Mixed Plastic Waste Valorization
نویسندگان
چکیده
Mixed plastic waste is challenging for any recycling process. Here, an enzymatic process compared with a biotechnological upcycling valorizing mixed constituted by PLA, PET, and PP. Both routes are modeled in Aspen Plus, analyzed bottlenecks, cost drivers, sensitivity regarding microbial performance. While only viable uniform feedstock, operating at optimized conditions reveals the potential to produce carbon-neutral succinic acid from waste.

Characterization of Bitumen Mixed with Plastic Waste
Plastic (Polyethylene Terephthalate, PET) is now used as packaging material for a whole range of consumer products in addition to carbonated beverages. Although plastics are very useful product, but the disposal of these wastes has become a problem and is of great concern, particularly in our country. One of the solutions to the disposal of plastic wastes is recycling it...
متن کاملTesting Stabilization/solidification Processes for Mixed Waste
Stabilization/Solidification technologies reduce the mobility of hazardous and radioactive contaminants in the environment through both physical and chemical processes. Four stabilization/solidification (S/S) processes were used to solidify three sample matrices contaminated with arsenic, chromium (VI), lead, cesium and strontium. These sample matrices were Idaho National Engineering and Enviro...
متن کاملRecycling of Mixed Plastic Waste – Is Separation Worthwhile?
The automated separation of plastic waste fractions intended for mechanical recycling is associated with substantial investments. It is therefore essential to evaluate to what degree separation really brings value to waste plastics as raw materials for new products. The possibility of reducing separation requirements and broadening the range of possible applications for recycled materials throu...
متن کاملPlastic Scintillators: a Powerful Tool to Reduce Mixed Waste
Wastes containing radioactive and organic compounds (mixed wastes) are difficult to dispose because of the regulations established for nuclear and hazardous wastes. Mixed wastes originate mainly in the emulsions generated in beta emitter determinations by Liquid Scintillation techniques. The use of plastic scintillators instead of liquid cocktails may facilitate the segregation, after measureme...
متن کاملMixed waste reduction in radioactivity determination by using plastic scintillators
In this work, we tested whether plastic scintillation (PS) is a suitable alternative to liquid scintillation (LS) and Cerenkov techniques for beta emitter detection. The main advantage of this alternative is the reduction of mixed waste produced as consequence of the measurement process. In addition, the quality parameters obtained with PS are as reliable as those obtained with LS and allow det...
